Collaboration Ideas, Links, and Lessons for teachers

How can the library program help my students?

  1. Quote a few stunning statistics from some of Loertscher's research on the role school libraries play in student success and then attach links to the articles
  2. Link here to MV's "Love Your Library" video of teachers at her middle school telling why the library is important to student success. High energy video (I plan to finish it over Spring Break) Short testimonials...great for showing that teachers want and need libraries.
  3. Link here to MV's short video of students succeeding through the library program with clips and phots of students reading books, researching, participating in book club, activities, etc. (I can check to be sure I don't have our library name or students faces in use...could probably edit a bit. I may go in and add some short student quotes of why the library helps them succeed.) I really like your ideas here, Mary. I think the idea of the video is great. We could add links to some book trailers we have created in other courses, too.

How can the library program help me?

  1. Could we attach each of our "Portrait of a Collaborator" projects here? Sounds good. Should we make one for our fake librarian, instead? We could combine parts of our portraits for the fake librarian. If we do this I can set up the page and invite ya'll to contribute. Maybe we could ask Dr. M if it is OK to post each of ours "as is." I think if the idea is to provide other librarians with ideas for marketing and advocacy, then having all three of ours might actually be more beneficial and less work for us.I think some of the student samples look like the actually posted their own portraits.
  2. Attach a sample rubric that shows how we can help with assessing projects
  3. Attach some links to actual collaborative lessons (I think this is an upcoming assignment in this class although I do have one from Dr. Cahill's class that I could attach perhaps. Do you guys have any?) Here's my webquest on Hosting a Mock trial on a novel http://zunal.com/webquest.php?w=76517
Yes, I have one. Here is the link to a webquest that I designed ( I have a collaborative lesson from Cahill's that accompanies this lesson)http://www.zunal.com/webquest.php?w=57513
Here is a webquest and collaborative lesson plan I designed http://myweb.twu.edu/~mkyle1/mk_webquest.html

Needs to be added to Link and Lesson page:

What are some resources that I can use right now?

  1. Watch the steps to Inquiry Learning (attach links to our "Persuasive Projects on Inquiry Learning") and then schedule your class for a research lesson with the librarian on an upcoming topic this six weeks.

Here is the link to my persuasive project:

  1. Visit the library website and databases from your classroom computer to use some of the following resources (I would be glad to come to your class or host your class in the library for a database overview that would assist them in your specific coursework.):

  • Power Videos for Teachers
  • Encyclopedia Britannica and World Book Encyclopedias on-line
  • NetTrekker, Culture Grams, History Study Center
  • Gale and EBSCOhost databases resources that include links to fabulous science, history, literary and math sites for student and teacher use.
